What to know about the 2025 California State Games in San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The California State Games, the Olympics-style event dedicated to California athletes, returns this summer to San Diego County.
From July 17 to 20, thousands of athletes will participate in 24 sports at venues around the San Diego area and the Pacific Ocean.
The Gam
es have been hosted since the late 1980s, with the non-profit group Sports San Diego taking over the operations just a few years ago.
Athletes from across the state, and in some instances from neighboring and other states, still have time to sign up to participate in the summer edition.

Regarding a person's eligibility to join the Games, Natalie Schneck with San Diego Sports said, "For a lot of folks, this is a great spot whether you're recreational or elite, we have a spot for a lot of people."
The opening ceremonies will be on Friday, July 18, at Pechanga Arena, and during the Games, sports will be played at venues such as UC San Diego, several local high schools and sports centers, and Ocean Beach.
The list of sports includes: archery, artistic swimming, badminton, basketball, BMX racing, climbing, diving, field hockey, footgolf, judo, pickleball, rugby, skateboarding, softball, surfing, swimming, track and field, water polo and wrestling. ...read more read less
