On Wednesday at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Berlin Fire Department, along with mut
ual aid from Boylston, Northborough, and Hudson Fire Departments were sent to a house fire at 190 River Road West. When crews arrived, additional assistance from Clinton, Bolton, Boxborough, Harvard, Marlborough, and Stow Fire Departments was requested.
Working smoke detectors in the home alerted the residents, which allowed them to safely evacuate. The residents prevented the fire from spreading by closing the door to the room where the fire began. No injuries were reported, however the cause of the fire has not yet been released.

This serves as a reminder of how important it is to have working smoke detectors in your home, as well as closing doors during sleeping hours. These simple steps can significantly impact the outcome of a fire emergency.
Alarms are crucial home safety tools and should be installed on every level of your house. It is important to get alarms from a well-known national brand that is listed by an independent laboratory like Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or Intertek (ETL). When installing a new smoke alarm, get a replacement with a sealed, long-life battery and a hush feature.
