Abita Beer opens Southshore brewery location on Tchoupitoulas
Mar 21, 2025
Local Abita enthusiasts now have a second option where they can enjoy beer from Louisiana’s oldest and largest craft brewery. Abita Brewing Company has opened its New Orleans Southshore brewery and taproom at 2375 Tchoupitoulas St., the former home of Urban Roast.
Even though the new location is
already open, there will be an official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, March 26, at 11 a.m. There will be giveaways and a specialty beer release. The brewery is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
This is Abita Brewing Company’s second brewery location as the Northshore brewery is located at 21084 LA-36 in Covington.
“We’re thrilled to officially open the doors of our New Orleans brewery,” says Heidi Guerra, Abita Brewing Company VP of Marketing. “This location gives us the chance to bring our beers directly to the heart of the city, making it even more convenient for locals and visitors to enjoy Abita.”
Tchoupitoulas Street is quietly becoming Beer Brewery Row. On Tchoupitoulas St., Abita joins Urban South Brewery (1645 Tchoupitoulas St.), Port Orleans Brewing Co. (4124 Tchoupitoulas St.), and NOLA Brewing & Pizza Co. (3033 Tchoupitoulas St.). NOLA Distillery, featuring handcrafted spirits, is also at 3715 Tchoupitoulas St.
Abita Brewing Company was founded in 1986 in Abita Springs and is Louisiana’s oldest and largest craft brewery. Abita is known for its premium beers like Abita Amber, Purple Haze, Andygator, DeltaGator, The Boot, and more, touting water that flows from an artesian spring north of Lake Pontchartrain as the key ingredient – the same spring water that will be used at the Southshore brewery.
The Southshore brewery will offer over 30 beers on tap, including Abita’s favorites and new, limited-edition brews exclusive to the Tchoupitoulas location. In addition to the beers on tap, the Tchoupitoulas location will feature a seven-barrel on-site brewing operation, rotating food vendors, outdoor area with projectors and TV screens, trivia nights, comedy nights, gameday watch parties, and beer education classes.
“We’re brewing on a smaller scale here, which gives us the freedom to experiment and craft innovative beers that you can only find at this location,” said Abita Brewing Company President Troy Ashley. “It’s an exciting new chapter for Abita, where creativity and tradition meet to offer something special for our fans.”
