CHALMETTE, La. (WGNO) — Residents of a St. Bernard Parish neighborhood are being evacuated due to a gas leak in the area.
In a post to Facebook, parish officials stated that there is an underground break that is bleeding into the sewer system and venting out of the manholes and street drains.

They are asking residents from the 3400 block of Jacob Drive to the 3800 block of Magistrate Street to evacuate by request of the Atmos Gas supervisor.
" We have multiple Fire Department units and Chiefs on scene at this time," said parish officials.

The Louisiana State Police HazMat unit, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office along with animal control is also responding to the area. Residents are being asked to not leave their pets at home.
