INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Another former Indiana University basketball player has come forward accusing a former team doctor of sexual abuse.
In an amended lawsuit, Butch Carter, a former standout player at Indiana University, claims that team doctor Brad Bomba abused him at IU’s Assembly Hal
l in 1979.
According to a release from a law firm, Carter reported the alleged abuse to then-coach Bob Knight and two other IU officials at the time. Despite the accusations, Bomba remained the team doctor for decades after the incident.
Carter went on to have a successful career in the NBA, playing for teams such as the Pacers, Lakers, Knicks, and 76ers.
In total, five former players have come forward with abuse claims.
In a class action lawsuit against IU filed in October, Haris Mujezinovic and Charlie Miller claimed Bomba would sexually abuse them during regular physicals. Other players John Flowers and Larry Richardson Jr. soon followed. The men added Carter’s declaration of abuse to the lawsuit on Thursday.
The university announced in September they’ve hired the law firm of Jones Day to investigate the men’s claims in Bomba, who would perform regular fitness exams on the players.
Bomba graduated from IU in 1957 and received multiple honors as a football player. He was inducted into IU’s Hall of Fame in 2007.
