DELAWARE, Ohio (WCMH) -- Central Ohio's last remaining J. Gumbo's has closed after 13 years of business.
The Cajun-Creole restaurant at 39 E. William St. in Delaware welcomed patrons for the last time on March 4, owners Richard and Natalie Upton announced on social media. The couple thanked the
Delaware community for their support, and said they decided to shutter the eatery to spend more time with their son.

"The friendships and bonds we have made with so many of you in the community probably would not have happened without the restaurant," the post said. "We want you to remember us in the most Cajun way possible: with good food, joyous music and plenty of community love."
Delaware's J. Gumbo's opened in April 2012 at 12 S. Sandusky St. then moved to 9 N. Sandusky St. in 2014, before relocating to the William Street location in 2022. Over the years, the Uptons said they "always circled back to be sure our mission was at the heart of what we do," which included quality service and providing equal employment opportunities to those with disabilities.
The William Street eatery had stood as the last J. Gumbo's in the Columbus area. The brand's Downtown location at 31 E. Gay St. closed in 2016, followed by the Gahanna restaurant at 64 Granville St. that shuttered after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The brand's menu is home to a selection of "big bowl" entrees, like the Voodoo Chicken bowl with slow-cooked chicken in spicy Cajun tomato sauce with a blend of spices. Appetizers and wraps, like the Chicken Red Hot wrap with shredded chicken in a tangy Cajun buffalo sauce, and a couple desserts round out the offerings.
