NTSB: Safety assessment of Green Bay's Leo Frigo Bridge recommended, 1 of 68 nationwide

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has recommended safety assessments of 68 bridges nationwide, and Green Bay's Leo Frigo Bridge is one of them.
The various assessment recommendations are due to NTSB's ongoing investigation into the tragic collapse of the Fra
ncis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore nearly one year ago.
The 68 bridges listed for a safety assessment in the NTSB's report are reportedly "over navigable waterways frequented by ocean-going vessels."

The report goes on to note that the 68 bridges "were constructed before the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) guidance was issued in 1991, have not undergone a vulnerability assessment based on recent vessel traffic, and, therefore, have an unknown level of risk of collapse from a vessel collision."
The Leo Frigo Bridge, built in 1979 and owned by WisDOT, is the only Wisconsin bridge listed in the assessment and was listed as 'critical/essential.' ...read more read less
