Painesville Township’s Zenergy Nails aims for quality nail, spa experiences

After working for local nail salons, Dee Kolin wanted to start her own business and “do it right.”
She started offering nail services in a loft before working with husband Brian Kolin to launch Zenergy Nails in Painesville Township in early 2021.

In t
he four years since it opened, their business has grown to a team of six nail stylists, expanded its footprint into a neighboring suite and opened a spa area.
“It’s been slow progress but it’s been – we’ve done it the right way,” Brian said. “We didn’t rush anything.”
After entering a waiting area, visitors can go into a room to the right for spa services or continue on to a back area lined with nail stations.
Brian said that the salon focuses on quality, not quantity. It offers manicure, pedicure, Gel-X, acrylic, waxing, facial and relaxation massage services.
“We can take on pretty much anything,” he said. “We’ve been doing a lot of bridal parties here, too, which is a really good thing.”
The couple also highlighted the salon’s clean appearance. Brian added that it uses “state-of-the-art” equipment.

Zenergy does not accept walk-ins; clients book appointments ahead of time to avoid long waits, he added.
“Not many salons call people by name when they walk in through the door,” Brian said. “People love that, and the fact that we can book online, people love that, as well.”
He said that Zenergy is “all about positivity and keeping our clients happy.” The salon makes sure that its stylists are talkative and have engaging personalities.
Brian added that the salon’s staff work like a family.
“I don’t really call them 'employee,'" Dee said. "I call them a team."
“They’re always looking at the trends of what’s going on to keep us involved in what’s going on," Brian said.

Zenergy has also been a chance for the Kolins to offer an alternative to the scheduling that Dee faced when she worked at other salons.
“She was always working, like, to 9 o’clock at night,” Brian said. “Every place she was at before, she’d go in at 9 o’clock and get home 8 or 9.”
He added that Zenergy closes at 6 p.m. each night so its workers can be with their families.
“She was unhappy. and now she’s super happy,” Brian said. “She likes coming to work every day and dealing with the employees and dealing with the clientele.”
“It’s different,” Dee added of Zenergy. “A good different.”
While a future expansion is not out of the question, Brian said they are happy with what they have.
“I think right now what we have right here is something pretty special, and we enjoy it ,and it’s workable for us,” he said.
