PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Two were arrested after one of them slashed an older adult in the cheek and the other was hiding the suspect, the Porterville Police Department said.
Officers say they responded to an assault at a home in the sub-100 block of South "A" Street on Tuesday at about
8:20 p.m. Upon arrival, responding officers found an older adult bleeding profusely from a laceration on his face. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Detectives say it was determined the victim was slashed in the cheek with a cutting instrument. The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Favian Rojas, who officers add was also on CDCR Parole.
On Wednesday morning, detectives developed information that Rojas was staying with Raquel Espinosa, 37, in the 400 block of West Center Avenue. Around 4:30 p.m., detectives responded to the location, where they learned Rojas was alone inside of Espinosa's home.
Police say they made sure nobody was inside a neighboring apartment of Espinosa's home, and gave Rojas various commands to exit and peacefully surrender, but he did not do so.
The SWAT and Crisis Response teams responded to the scene, and officers say Rojas was given additional commands to exit the home, but he barricaded himself within the common attic area of Espinosa's home and the neighboring apartment.
According to the police department, after numerous efforts to gain compliance were exhausted, the SWAT Team deployed chemical agents into the common attic area. This led to Rojas' surrender - police add no officers or members of the public were hurt during this incident.
Detectives report a search warrant revealed Espinosa was in possession of a stun gun, even though she was previously convicted of a felony. Detectives also learned Espinosa harbored Rojas and provided misleading information to detectives to thwart Rojas' arrest.
Investigators state Rojas was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and he along with Espinosa were arrested and booked at the TCSO South County Detention Facility. Rojas was booked under suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, mayhem, elder abuse, resisting or delaying an officer and parole hold.
Officers say Espinosa was booked under suspicion of concealing a felon, being a previously convicted felon in possession of a stun gun and probation violation. ...read more read less
