Children's museum in Topeka breaks attendance record
Mar 20, 2025
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A children's museum in the capital city broke its record for single-day attendance Thursday.
The Kansas Children's Discovery Center (KCDC) broke its two-year-old record single-day attendance record on Thursday, March 20. The museum had a total of 1,432 visitors; on March 16, 2023,
the previous single-day record was set with a total of 1,192.
According to a news release from the KCDC, many factors played into this record-breaking day: its extended hours on Thursdays, the traveling "Thomas & Friends: Explore the Rails!" exhibit and free admission offered on the third Thursday of each month.

Today’s capacity crowd is timely as the museum broke ground this past September on an $11.2 million expansion that will double the square footage of the museum, expected to open this fall," Laura Burton with the KCDC said. "The museum embarked on the project after years of record attendance and increasing demand for its services."
Since the children's museum opened in 2011, more than 1 million people have visited from all 50 states and 23 countries.
