GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Greenfield-Central High School’s Braylon Mullins received another major honor on Thursday.
The UConn basketball signee was named the 2024-25 Gatorade Indiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
Mullins is the first boys basketball player from Greenfield-Cent
ral to ever receive the honor.
“Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high school sports, celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes for their success on the court, in the classroom and in the community,” according to a news release.
Mullins averaged 32.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this past season.
“Braylon had one of the best seasons that I have seen stat-wise in a very long time,” New Palestine High School head coach Trent Whitaker said in the news release. “The kid cannot only shoot from anywhere in the half court, but if you get up on him, he’s going to take you off the dribble. He can finish well above the rim or pull up and score mid-range, over the top of you.”
In addition to his basketball career, Mullins also is involved in the community away from the court. He is a member of the school’s Student Leadership Academy and has volunteered in the community as a young basketball coach.
Mullins was previously named a McDonald’s All-American and will play in the annual boys basketball showcase in April in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Kokomo High School’s Flory Bidunga, a current forward for the University of Kansas, was the Gatorade Indiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year in both 2023-24 and 2022-23.
