INDIANAPOLIS - Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 21 points as the Purdue Boilermakers beat the High Point Panthers 75-63 in an NCAA Tournament Midwest Region first round game in Providence.
All-American guard Braden Smith added 20 points and six assists in the win, while Cam Heide contributed 11 points of
f the bench.
The Big South champions hung with last year's national runners-up for most of the first before back-to-back dunks by Myles Colvin and Heide gave the Boilers a 10-point lead late in the half. Purdue maintained that advantage leading, 37-27 at halftime.
The Panthers cut the deficit to just three on a Justin Bodo Bodo dunk with 7:47 to play, but the Boilers responded with a 7-0 run capped by a Smith three-pointer to extend the lead back to 10.
Purdue dominated on the glass, out rebounding High Point 45-24 and took care of the ball, committing just seven turnovers.
