MINOT, ND (KXNET) — New data from GoodRx reveals that North Dakota is among the hardest-hit states for pharmacy closures, leaving many residents struggling to access certain medications.
Pharmacy deserts are expanding rapidly, leaving 1 in 7 Americans without easy access to a pharmacy. Nearly 8
1% of North Dakota's population now lives in a pharmacy desert, forcing residents to travel longer distances to fill their prescriptions. Things like inflation and reimbursements are driving these closures.
G&G Pharmacy Manager Sonia McHenry says many people are frustrated with the situation.

"We have people who actually travel an hour away to get their medications," McHenry said. "We've had a lot of medication shortages in the past year, and when people have to travel and then we don't have it ready, it can be very frustrating."
Over the past 5 years, more than 1,300 pharmacies have closed, leaving 48.5 million people without nearby access to a retail pharmacy.
