SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Potholes along Miramar Road in San Diego are causing frustration for many local drivers who claim the situation is dangerous and expensive.
“This entire stretch of Miramar is just -- it's like driving through a minefield really," said local Sandra Humphreys. She commu
tes five days a week from her home in Ramona to work in La Jolla, with her ride being for from smooth.
Humphreys drive along Miramar Road, between Genesee Avenue and Pomerado Road, is filled with potholes, cracks, and uneven road surfaces that cause some drivers to swerve in an effort to avoid it.

"I dislodged something very vital. I thought it was my axel," said Humphreys. After multiple trips to the auto shop, she explained the damages caused to her 2022 Acura while driving down Miramar Roaf are adding up. “Close to $2,000 with the tire pop, the car having that happen, and then another tire pop," she explained.
She’s not the only one finding herself in that situation.
“This week alone we’ve had five customers come in based on blowouts or cracked rims or damaged suspension components based on potholes on this road," said Arturo Alvarez, Sales Manager at SD Tire & Wheel Outlet on Miramar Road. Alvarez said poor road conditions speed up normal wear and tear on a car, stating, “The cost of it grows quickly.”
The city does have a program that offers potential reimbursements for pothole repairs. “It's an extended process," said Alvarez. "Takes between six months to a year to actually see the pay."
Potholes can also be reported through the city's Get It Done app.
Miramar Road was last resurfaced in 2014. A spokesperson for the city said they don’t plan to resurface it again until after the Pure Water Pipeline project is completed in 2026, so the newly repaved roadway would not be subject to the impacts of the construction and trenching that is part of the current project.
On top of everything else, a water main break on the road Wednesday led to lane closures and additional traffic in the area.
Councilmember Kent Lee, whose District 6 includes Miramar Road, said he’s been advocating for repairs. Meanwhile, the city declined an interview with FOX 5/KUSI. ...read more read less
