BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of attacking his wife with a pair of scissors while she was holding their baby.
Wildson Tol Morales, 36, was sentenced to five years, four months in prison on Thursday. Kern County Superior Court Judge Tiffany Or
gan-Bowles said a mid-term sentence was appropriate for Tol Morales.
Organ-Bowles said she took into consideration Tol Morales’s minimal prior criminal record and statements from his family members in his support. She also said there were factors of aggravation such as Tol Morales committing great violence, using a weapon, attacking a “particularly vulnerable” person and committing domestic violence in front of children.
A Kern County jury found Tol Morales guilty on all four counts — domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, false imprisonment with violence and felony child abuse — on Jan. 31, court records show.
Tol Morales and his wife were out at a party on April 4, according to a release from the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. When they returned home, Tol Morales attacked his wife with a pair of scissors.
The victim was holding their 1-year-old child, the DA’s Office said.
Tol Morales threw his wife on the floor and got on top of her to stop her from escaping. An underage family member pulled Tol Morales off of her and choked him until he fell unconscious, letting his wife escape, according to officials.
Officers saw cuts on the victim’s hands and blood on the floor, walls and interior doors of the home, the release said. There was also blood on the 1-year-old’s clothes.
Prosecutors previously said Tol Morales faced up to nine years, eight months in prison. ...read more read less
