PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The March Madness action on the court isn’t the only thing shaking up in Providence.
Bryce Hopkins could be on his way out of Providence College.
Multiple reports say Hopkins will enter the transfer portal when it officially opens on Monday.
The report said Hopkins m
ay be going in with a “do not contact” designation, meaning he may have his mind made up.
Multiple reports also say Justyn Fernandez is going into the portal.
Fernandez has been playing in spurts this season for the Providence Friars.
The Amica Mutual Pavilion is one of eight tournament sites, welcoming Purdue, McNeese, Clemson, Arkansas, Kansas, High Point, Omaha and St. John’s.
All of the teams are getting a feel for the floor ahead of Thursday’s games.
Many of the teams will now see what Providence has to offer, including Arkansas Razorbacks coach, John Calipari, who has plenty of basketball history in the area.
“Italian city, we already went out to Federal Hill, went under the pineapple, had a nice meal last night,” said Calipari.
“I tried to tell the guys, Al Forno, but I love Providence.”
And then there’s Rick Pitino.
The former coach of PC, Boston university, the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics will lead St. John’s against Purdue.
And with all the madness comes road closures downtown.
Parking will be limited, with garages at Providence Place, the convention center and Biltmore available.
Police will be in the area to keep traffic running smoothly.
