Police: 2 charged with murder, abduction in JCC death

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Two people have been charged with felony murder and abduction in connection a man's death in January in James City County, police said.

Harley James McClure Hutchens, 29, and Amber Nicole Johnson, 28, both of James City County, face the two charges in connection to the Jan. 31 death of Jose Medellin, 67.
Just after 2 p.m., police said they were called to a home on Diascund Reservoir Road, and when they arrived, first responders said they found a woman outside who was hurt and an unresponsive man inside the home. Police said the man was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
Detectives said they developed leads in the case that connected the assault to a robbery from the night before, resulting in two people being taken into custody.
Both Hutchens and Johnson remain at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond. Hutchens has a scheduled court date in Williamsburg-James City County General District Court for April 1, while Johnson has a hearing scheduled in the same court for May 2.
Johnson, according to online court records, faces additional charges of conspiracy to commit robbery by using force, accessory to robbery by using force, breaking and entering an occupied house to commit a misdemeanor and conspiracy to breaking and entering in an occupied house to commit a misdemeanor.
