WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Practice day has wrapped up, and the NCAA Tournament is about to start. Intrust Bank Arena is home to vendors, merch stores and concession stands, all gearing up for the next few days.
"Honestly, we haven't had a break. Tomorrow's going to be really, really busy," Emily P
richard, a softball coach with Nitro, a non-profit started by softball parents, said.
Every corner of Intrust Bank Arena's NCAA celebrations, from the merch stand on the west side of the arena to the deep fryer at Chickie & Pete's fried chicken, is often manned by volunteers and non-profits.
"We started as a softball organization, most of them are softball parents. My daughter plays other sports, but we are all sports parents," Toni Nedeau, volunteer cashier with Nitro, said.
Prepping food and serving customers comes with an incentive from Intrust Bank Arena.

"The nonprofits get involved with Intrust Bank Arena by volunteering their time. Then we, as Intrust Bank Arena, pay money toward their foundation or their nonprofit," Wade Buller, accounting manager for IBA, said.
For some of the staff at Chickie & Pete's, it's a busy but productive outlet to make some money for their organization.
"We got together as a team. We needed to fundraise, and this is kind of an easy way to fundraise. And also give back to the community and help out," Prichard said.
With thousands of customers on their way to the arena, no shortage of them will be looking for refreshments.
"This is a huge event; we have a lot of people coming in; we would like to see more events like this come back to town," Nedeau said.
Practice day was busy, but traffic is about to get much heavier around Wichita. The workers, excited and nervous, think their prep will pay off. ...read more read less
