Maggie, one of the five oldest chimps in the United States passed away one month short of her 56th birthday, the San Francisco Zoo has announced. In the months leading up to her death, she was diagnosed with lymphoma and placed under palliative care to ensure her last months were comfortable, the SF Zoo said.  She will be remembered by the harmony she brought to her troop of chimpanzees at the SF Zoo, officials said. Tanya Peterson, CEO and Executive Director at SF Zoo remembers moments of Maggie, “asserting her leadership with strength and grace,” with her fellow chimpanzees. Maggie was known for creating elaborate blanket nests notorious for their colorful ensemble.
