Lori Barghini and Julia Cobbs to host first public event together since leaving MyTalk 107.1
Mar 19, 2025
Lori Barghini and Julia Cobbs will host a book club/afternoon tea in April, marking the first time the pair has hosted a public event together since ending their long-running MyTalk 107.1 show “Lori and Julia” in June.
“We’re not done telling stories,” Barghini said.
The longtime friends w
ill host the event at noon April 6 at Nicollet Island Inn in Minneapolis. The four-course tasting menu with paired teas includes a conversation with local author Lorna Landvik. Tickets are $64 via nicolletislandinn.com/happenings/tea.
Barghini said one of the epiphanies she’s had since leaving the airwaves is her love of books.
“I didn’t really realize it until the last couple of months,” she said. “I was a military kid and we moved a lot. Books have always been my refuge and joy. Sometimes a book is the only thing that will calm Julia’s mind.”
The pair regularly hosted authors on their radio show and, unlike many in the business, Barghini always made it a point to actually read the book first. “Almost every author was surprised I did,” she said. “That shocked me. That absolutely shocked me.”
Barghini and Cobbs spent 22 years on the air together, filling the afternoon drive-time shift with celebrity gossip and chat about their own lives as well as discussions of books, films and television shows. They shocked listeners when they made the announcement they were leaving the station.
The job limited Barghini’s ability to travel and that, coupled with the daily grind of radio, led her to make the decision to end the show. On June 27, they aired their final broadcast together live from the Fillmore Minneapolis night club in front of a full house of adoring fans.
The women first met in the early ’90s, when they were both working for Carlson Cos. They hit if off immediately and began traveling together. They also created fake nipples they dubbed Bodyperks and sold to women eager for some easy silicone enhancements.
