Grandview man sentenced to 20 years in prison for 2023 hammer attack

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Grandview man has pleaded guilty to attacking several people, including a child and teen, with a hammer in May 2023.
According to Jackson County court records, Collins Milimu, 39, pleaded guilty to three counts of domestic assault and one count of child endangerment.
He h
as been ordered to serve 20 years in prison.

FOX4 previously reported that on Sunday, May 14, 2023, officers with the Grandview Police Department were called to a home near E. 130th Street and Manchester Avenue.
Officers reportedly saw Milimu leaving his house, where three people were later found injured.
After seeing him leave the home, Grandview police said they had to run after Milimu to arrest him. When officers caught up to him, he had a deep cut on his right palm, as well as several cuts to his index and middle fingers on his right hand, court documents said.
However, as police were placing Milimu in custody, dispatch told officers that someone inside the home had called 911 and asked for help.
When officers went inside, they found two people with severe injuries and a child with minor injuries, according to records. A teenager was also found in a neighboring home with severe injuries.
All of the victims were taken to the hospital, including Milimu.
According to court documents, officers found a knife and hammer covered in blood.
During the investigation, Milimu told officers that he hit the three victims in the head with a hammer because they were being disrespectful after taking out the trash.

He also said he had fought one of the victims, but didn't know if he had the hammer in his hand at the time of the confrontation. At the time of his arrest, he reportedly denied having any knowledge of a knife.
