The University of Hawai‘i has officially launched a nationwide search for its next athletics director at UH Manoa, assembling a 10-member search committee to lead the process.
Finalist interviews are expected to take place in late May, with an announcement anticipated by mid to late summer. The
committee is co-chaired by UH Board of Regents Chair Gabriel Lee and Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation Chairman Jack Tsui, while UH President Wendy Hensel will make the final decision.
The committee includes a diverse mix of business leaders, former athletes, and university representatives:
Gabriel Lee – Chair, UH Board of Regents
Jack Tsui – Chairman, Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation
Peter Ho – Chairman & CEO, Bank of Hawai‘i
Tita Ahuna – Former UH women’s volleyball player, Punahou School athletic director
Artie Wilson – Former UH men’s basketball player, Spectrum Sports analyst, founder of Artie Wilson & Associates
Michele Nagamine – UH women’s soccer head coach
Susan Eichor – President & COO, aio
James Tokioka – Director, Hawai‘i Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism
Scott Sinnett – Faculty athletic representative, UH Mānoa

The committee will work alongside Parker Executive Search, a national firm specializing in athletic department hiring, to guide the selection process.
Despite the compressed timeline, Hensel emphasized the university’s commitment to a thorough and transparent search.
“We are focused on finding the best possible leader for UH athletics,” Hensel said in a statement. “Interest in this position is significant, and we understand the impact the next AD will have—not only on our student-athletes and university but also on our fans and broader community. We’re also grateful for the support of Gov. [Josh] Green and Mayor [Rick] Blangiardi, whose perspectives will be invaluable throughout this process.”
The new director will oversee a department that sponsors 21 NCAA Division I programs, supporting approximately 450 student-athletes. While most teams currently compete in the Big West Conference, UH will become a full Mountain West member on July 1, 2026.
The position opened after the release of Craig Angelos in December 2024.
Associate athletic director Lois Manin has been serving as interim AD during the transition. ...read more read less
