MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – Town officials in Moncks Corner have determined who will be the new leader of the Moncks Corner Police Department.
Capt. Lee Mixon Jr. was appointed the town's new Chief of Police. Chief Mixon's officials' swearing-in will be on Friday.
The 36-year law enforcemen
t veteran started his career with the United States Air Force Security Police in 1989. He served in various roles in the military until 2011, which included deployments to Panama, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.
Following his military retirement, Chief Mixon worked for the Charleston Police Department before joining Moncks Corner PD in 2023.
"With his exceptional experience, dedication, and deep commitment to both law enforcement and our community, I have no doubt that Chief Mixon will continue to serve and protect our residents with the same integrity and excellence he has demonstrated throughout his distinguished career," said Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. "We are excited for the leadership and vision he will bring to the Moncks Corner Police Department as we work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our town."
Additionally, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He is an active member of the FBI National Academy Associates, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Moncks Corner Rotary, according to the town of Moncks Corner.
The promotion comes after former Chief Steve Young resigned in January. Young is now the chief of staff for the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office. ...read more read less
