NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – If you're looking for a lesser-known camping spot in New Mexico, you may be in luck. A lodge just 150 miles north of Albuquerque was named a "top hidden gem" in a recently published list by Campspot.
Stone House Lodge in Los Ojos is located between El Vado and Heron Lake S
tate Parks in northern New Mexico. The lodge was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Multiple different owners have taken charge of the lodge, with its most recent change in ownership taking place in 2022.
These movies were filmed in Santa Fe. Have you seen them?
The lodge itself is 2,500 square feet with six bedrooms and three bathrooms. If you're looking for something a bit smaller, the location offers one-and-two-bedroom cabins, along with a four-bedroom duplex. There's also a "Fishers Studio," as well as RV lots and campsites.
The Stone House Lodge website says there's an abundance of wildlife on the property, including "deer, elk, wild turkey, bobcats, osprey, mountain lions, and bears," or maybe even a glimpse of a bald eagle during the wintertime.
A cafe offering breakfast, lunch and dinner is located on the camping ground, among other amenities listed on the Campspot website:
Bathrooms
Bike rental
Canoeing and kayaking
Fishing
General store
Ice cream
Internet access
Paddle boat
Showers
Special events
This isn't the first time a New Mexico property made the Campspot list. Back in 2022, Angel Fire RV Resort was named one of the top campgrounds in the USA. ...read more read less
