HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) -- Four adults and two pets are displaced after a fire in Hampton on Tuesday morning, officials said.
Around 11:40 a.m., crews were dispatched to a residential apartment fire on Geddy Drive in the Briarfield (District 9) area. While in route, crews reportedly said heavy smoke
could be seen for miles.
Crews arrived on the scene to find a two-story apartment complex with heavy black smoke coming out a door and window at the front of the building on the first floor.

Crews searched the residence on fire and the apartments around it. A quick knockdown of the fire was made by the first-responding crews and the fire was called out within 25 minutes of the initial dispatch.
Fire investigators were on scene during operations and, after investigating the incident and interviewing the occupant, it was determined that the fire was caused by careless/unattended cooking.
The fire affected four living units and displaced four adults, one feline, and one canine.
No injuries were reported, but one was evaluated for smoke inhalation. ...read more read less
