LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – With the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament tipping off at Rupp Arena this week, Lexington Police are gearing up for increased traffic in the downtown area.
Police discussed traffic plans Wednesday as the first and second rounds of the tournament are set to take
place on March 20 and 22 in Lexington. Officials are urging drivers to plan ahead, expect delays, and consider alternate routes as thousands of fans are expected to fill the area.
“We’re going to have folks out in the street helping guide you in and out of the arena itself. We ask that you heed their direction, give yourself a little bit of extra time, and make sure that this weekend, when you’re out and celebrating, no one is drinking and driving,” said Lexington Police Lt. Jeremiah Davis.
Extra officers will be on hand to manage traffic and ensure a smooth flow in and out of the venue. Police advise attendees to allow for additional travel time and stay updated on road closures and parking options.
