EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Gail fire has grown to over 200 acres and is 0 percent contained on Wednesday, March 19, in Otero County, according to the New Mexico Forestry Division.
The Forestry Division says the fire was discovered at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, and is located two mi
les east of Mayhill, New Mexico.
Currently, the fire is at 235 acres and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Forestry Division says resources responded and engaged the fire into Tuesday evening and overnight into Wednesday.
"They made good progress using hand lines and dozers to create the beginnings of containment," the Forestry Division said.
Crews will continue constructing and enhancing fire lines and mopping up around structures on Wednesday.
The Forestry Division, Smokey Bear, Silver City, Sacramento Hotshots, Lincoln National Forest, and volunteer fire departments are currently working to contain the fire with over 100 personnel present.
Cloudcroft VFD Station on HWY 82 stands open for current evacuations. A shelter was set up overnight at the Cloudcroft High School and the school is back in session.
