Extremely high winds have caused major problems across New Mexico Tuesday. High winds and blowing dust created "brown-out" conditions on some roads and inters
tates. This caused the closer of multiple highways across the state this afternoon, including multi-car pileups from low visibility. Wind gusts have been recorded over 70 mph in some places, with nearly 70 mph wind gusts in Albuquerque where a dust storm went through earlier today as well. Winds are still gusting over 50 mph across eastern New Mexico tonight where blowing dust will continue to pose problems. Winds will die down in western New Mexico though.
Temperatures will be much cooler Wednesday behind a strong cold front. Winds will be breezy to locally windy with some gusts over 40 mph at times. Blowing dust may again be possible in eastern New Mexico Wednesday afternoon. Winds will make it feel cooler Wednesday as well.
Windier weather returns Thursday, bringing a high fire danger across eastern New Mexico once again with calmer conditions by Friday. A warming trend will also start Thursday with high temperatures back up to around average for this time of year. Breezy to gusty winds start up again Saturday, which will again bring back a high fire danger in eastern New Mexico. Winds relax Sunday as temperatures continue to climb.
