2 men hurt in shooting on Indianapolis south side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two men were stable at a hospital with gunshot wounds after a fight broke out at a neighborhood grocery on Tuesday night, Indianapolis police say.
Calls to 911 about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday said a fight among three to 10 teen
s broke out at AA Market, 2458 S. State Ave. That’s a few blocks southeast of the I-65 interchange for East Raymond Street on the city’s south side.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived at the store to find no one injured, said Capt. Don Weilhammer in an impromptu news conference outside the grocery.
He said one of wounded men was found a few blocks away. A computer-aided dispatch entry showed medics were called to the 1600 block of East Bradbury Avenue for a person shot.
A short time later, the other wounded man showed up at IU Health Methodist Hospital.
Weilhammer said people involved in the fight were found at the house a few blocks from the grocery, and officers were talking with them. Investigators also were talking with witnesses to the fight and shooting.
Investigators initially believed that several people pulled out guns during the fight. IMPD believes there’s no threat to the neighborhood.
Anyone with information was asked to contact IMPD Detective Andrew Hashley at 317-327-3475, or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
