Suspect dead, three officers injured in Pueblo shooting

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A suspect is dead and three officers are stable following an officer-involved shooting near Bessemer on Tuesday evening, March 18.
According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), officers originally responded around 7:15 p.m. to a shots fired call near the intersection of Wes
t Mesa Avenue and Cedar Street, after reports that an officer had been shot. Officers with PPD and deputies with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) responded, and once on the scene, additional gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and law enforcement.
PPD said the suspect then ran from the scene while continuing to fire shots at officers. Officers returned fire, and the suspect was injured in the exchange. Officers provided emergency medical attention, but the suspect was declared dead on scene.
According to PPD, three officers were injured and taken to the hospital, where all are stable. No members of the public were injured.

PPD said law enforcement would remain on scene for several hours, and the 10th Judicial District CIRT (Critical Incident Response Team), led by Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been activated to conduct the investigation. The Pueblo County Coroner will identify the suspect after the proper notifications have been made.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued a statement on the incident:
Our men and women in uniform work every day on the front lines, and put themselves in harm’s way to protect our lives and communities. Pueblo is a strong community, especially in tough times like this. I am closely monitoring this situation and getting regular updates, and The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is actively supporting the investigation with support from State Patrol. I applaud the actions of everyone involved in stopping the violent suspect, and am praying for the three officers who were injured in this attack.
