HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. (WROC) — Congratulations to Patrick Wilson, our latest Golden Apple Award winner! Wilson is a third grade teacher at Manor Intermediate in the Honeoye Falls-Lima School District.
Mr. Wilson is one of those teachers that kids remember years after they leave his third grade cl
assroom. It's a place where a lot of learning happens and also a lot of fun.
"He's very kind and very, very patient and he adds in lots of fun stuff," said student Eli Parker.
The Parker family nominated him for a Golden Apple Award after noticing how much thought he puts into his lessons.
"What really stood out to me about Mr. Wilson was how much intentionality and thoughtfulness he brings to the classroom to be fun but also help the kids learn how to interact with each other, how to build empathy, how to connect with one another," said Julia Parker.
"He never loses the sight that our children grow up to be wonderful adults in our community and he is always making sure our students are persisting in different activities that they do and that they are kind to one another. He has a great way of making sure that learning is fun for students, and he has never lost that," School Principal Joelle Weaver added.
Mr. Wilson has been teaching in the HF-L District for 27 years. He's taught 2nd and 4th grade too but enjoys teaching 3rd grade the most. He credits great teachers along the way for leading him to pursue education.
"I had some really great teachers as I was growing up and they really got me into reading books, science and math, a little bit. But it was really just the enjoyment of learning and opening your eyes to all the stuff that's around you," said Wilson.
He enjoys learning what works for each child.
"It's a worthy cause to try and find what makes each kid tick. what their interests are, where we can meet half-way and just get them excited about learning. Some of it's not that great, not that fun all the time, but at least it has meaning to it and it's a really great opportunity to have the kids steer and direct their lives for the future," he said.
A future that will, no doubt, include some great memories of third grade.
