APD: Crime trending down compared to this time last year

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina said his department is seeing a positive change when it comes to the city's crime problem. APD said the latest crime stats show several key areas have improved in the city. Chief Medina said there have been nine homicid
es so far in 2025 compared to the 19 at this time last year.

"Auto theft down 43 percent, auto burglary down 40 percent. Overall, the crimes that we watch the most on the property crimes side; burglaries, auto burgs, residential, commercial, shoplifting, the auto theft are combined 43 percent down for the year," said Chief Medina.
Other violent crimes have taken a dip too. Aggravated assault is down 15%. Sex crimes are down 25% and robberies have dropped 36% compared to last year. Despite a drop in overall crime numbers, Chief Medina said felony arrests are up 12%. ...read more read less
