BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Lockport man was sentenced to serve five years and five months in prison for his role in a home invasion and robbery in September 2017 in the town of Tonawanda, the United States District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
Officials said at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 28, 48-ye
ar-old Todd Laraba and another person entered a home and went into the family room where the victims, an elderly couple, were watching television.
The two men were wearing all black, including gloves and masks, and of them allegedly said, "this isn't going to hurt, or take long. You won't get hurt, just relax." They then zip tied the couple's hands and ankles and placed duct tape on their eyes and mouths, the district attorney's office said.
While one man remained with the couple, the other one entered the attic of the home and stole a lockbox which contained $60,000 in cash, according to officials.
Officials said after the two men left, the couple removed the restraints and duct tape and called police, who responded and found four black zip ties, four pieces of duct tape and other items. Tests found Laraba's DNA on several pieces of tape and one set of zip ties.
Laraba was convicted in connection with the home invasion back in December 2023 and originally faced up to 20 years in prison.
