Suspected drunken driver in SW Bakersfield crash that killed married couple admitted to drinking: search warrant

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A newly released search warrant filed by the Bakersfield Police Department revealed a driver involved in the fatal collision Sunday in southwest Bakersfield that killed a married couple admitted to consuming alcohol before driving.

estigators she drank two 24-ounce cans of Twisted Tea, an alcoholic beverage, at around 10 p.m. on March 15, the warrant said.

Correa was involved in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Coffee Road and Stockdale Highway at around 1:37 a.m. on March 16, BPD said in a previous statement.
Two passengers who were in an Uber vehicle died from the crash. Max Mooney, 30, died at the scene and Desiree Mooney, 30, was rushed to Kern Medical where she died of her injuries, according to BPD.
Jennifer Cristina Velez, the driver of the Uber car that Max and Desiree Mooney were in, and the passenger in Correa’s car were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. Correa was treated for minor injuries, police said.

Correa displayed signs of alcohol intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot and watery eyes, an alcoholic odor and horizontal and vertical gaze nystagmus, according to the warrant. Correa’s breath sample had 0.088% blood alcohol content. The legal limit for driving is 0.08%.
Bakersfield Police Sgt. Eric Celedon said Correa doesn’t have a driver’s license.
Correa was also arrested for public intoxication in August 2023.
Celedon said Correa was arrested on suspicion of homicide, but has not been booked into Lerdo jail yet due to hospitalization. ...read more read less
