PNM: Power shutoff possible in East Mountains due to high winds

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – PNM is monitoring the extreme winds and elevated fire danger in the East Mountains Tuesday, March 18. PNM is continuing to monitor the need for a potential public safety shutoff to protect the public from possible wildfire risks.

PNM has not currently issued a public safety shutoff, but are asking East Mountain customers to prepare for a potential power outage. During a public safety shutoff, PNM will turn off power on parts of its system to avoid starting a wildfire in extreme weather conditions.
PNM shared the following tips to prepare for potential power disruptions:
Keep contact information updated so PNM can alert you of any shutoffs or other notifications.
Stay away from any downed powerlines and contact 911 and PNM if you see a downed line.
Prepare a power outage kit including food, water, medications and flashlights.
If someone in your home relies on electric-powered medical equipment, have a backup source ready.
