Crews rescue 12 chickens, parakeet, iguana from Lincoln fire

LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — Lincoln firefighters responded to a home off Old Louisquisset Pike on Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in the basement.
Lincoln Fire Chief Timothy Walsh said crews arrived around 9:30 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the back of the house. The homeowner told cre
ws the fire was in the basement.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames, preventing them from spreading to the rest of the home. The basement sustained fire and smoke damage.
While no injuries were reported, Walsh said crews rescued 12 chickens, a parakeet, and a dragon iguana from the basement.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
