Marcus’ 4 a.m. Tuesday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Wind gusts could peak over 40mph through Wednesday night.
Tuesday:
We began our Tuesday with relatively quiet conditions and clear skies. Temperatures are crisp but not as cold as where we started Monday morning.
We look for
much warmer conditions as we head through the day. In fact, we could be nearly 20° warmer than yesterday’s highs. The one hang-up for the day today will be gusty winds. Wind speed will ramp up as we move late into the morning and afternoon. Gusts could reach as high as 35 mph at times.
High temperatures topped out in the low to possibly mid-70s across the state.
Tuesday night:
Mild temperatures this evening under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Winds will diminish slightly but still remain elevated through the overnight hours. Lows will fall to the low to mid-50s.
Windy with storms Wednesday:
There are two concerns as we head into our Wednesday. First will be the strengthening wind gusts, which potentially could reach 40 mph or higher as we roll through the day.
The second issue will be the potential for a few scattered thunderstorms. A few of those storms could become strong or severe, with the primary threats being damaging winds. There is a low potential threat for large hail and even an isolated tornado.
The main window for storm threats will be between the hours of 3 PM and 10 PM.
High temperatures on Wednesday will top out in the mid-60s.
Snow and blustery Thursday:
Thursday will be a shock to the system as a rush of much colder temperatures moves through on the back end of the storm system. Look for chilly rain showers flipping over to snow early in the morning with a warm ground that should be a non-impactful event, with some of these snow showers moving through during the morning hours.
The combination of snow falling on top of falling temperatures and blustery winds will make for a miserable start to our Thursday.
High temperatures top out only in the mid-40s.
Extended forecast:
We look to quiet down as we head into Friday with more reasonable temperatures. Winds will lighten up, and we should see plenty of sunshine with highs returning to the mid and upper 50s.
A weak low-pressure system will approach on Saturday, which could bring some scattered light showers through the day. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s.
Sunday appears to be dry for the first half of the day, with another system tracking into the state by the afternoon and evening, bringing showers and maybe a rumble of thunder to wrap up the weekend. High temperatures should peak in the lower 60s.
The extended forecast does look cooler as we head into the start of the workweek. Highs will top out in the low 50s for Monday, with long-range trends taking us into the mid and upper 50s for much of next week.
