2 brush fires at Aurora park, open space started within minutes, officials say

Two wildfires started within minutes of each other at an Aurora park and open space Monday afternoon during dry, windy conditions, according to fire officials.
Aurora Fire Rescue first responded to a brush fire in Jewell Wetlands Park along South Potomac Street at around 3:15 p.m., officials said in
a news release.
The fire burned through dead trees and was pushed in multiple directions by shifting, gusty winds, but fire crews were able to contain it at 2 acres.

A second wildfire sparked on open space near the 8000 block of South Kewaunee Street at 3:19 p.m., according to the department.
The fire burned across 2-3 acres and came “dangerously close” to several homes, with residents reporting seeing large flames from their back yards, fire officials said.
Fire crews managed to stop forward progress on both fires within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged, and the cause of both fires is under investigation.
