‘You are being deported’: San Pablo police warn of immigration scam

(KRON) -- Residents have been warned by the San Pablo Police Department (SPPD) about an immigration scam. Law enforcement has been notified about a scam -- possible prank -- that claims to be immigration officials. The scam is reported to demand personal information and/or payment.

een distributed to prank community members, according to SPPD. One example is a package that reads, "you are being deported," which is pictured below. This package claims to have official documents inside, says SPPD.

SPPD warned residents of the following.
Real immigration officials will never ask for payments over the phone or threaten immediate action.
Do not share personal details with unknown callers or messages.
If you receive suspicious communication, don’t engage—report it!
As of Monday evening, San Pablo police have not received calls about immigration scams. Residents are encouraged to call SPPD at 510-724-1111 if they receive any suspicious notifications.
This immigration scam comes at a time when concerns in the Bay Area immigrant community have risen since President Donald Trump assumed office in January. ICE agents conducting operations in cities like San Jose and Concord have led to these concerns. ...read more read less
