Paul Mills previews Shockers NIT Opener at Oklahoma State

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Having a press conference Monday afternoon to preview Wichita State's NIT First Round game is not what many fans or even the Shockers thought would be happening.
The team had already had exit interviews with players who would be returning. Several players were no longer i
n Kansas or had plans to fly out because it was spring break at WSU.
But now the team has reassembled and is in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
Head Coach Paul Mills says he's not worried about how his team will respond to getting invited to a postseason tournament after thinking their season was over after an AAC Quarterfinal loss to Memphis.
"I think a lot of players, when you walk out of the game, that doesn't go your way. I think any competitor in the world says, 'When can we tip it up again?'" Mills explained. "So this is like another opportunity. Now, if you don't like hooping, you probably don't want to play, right? But I mean, why do you want guys who don't want like basketball around [the team]? If you like basketball, you want to play basketball. We have guys who like basketball."
To keep their season alive for longer than just one game, they'll need to take down a Cowboys team with more talent than what was shown in their 15-17 this season. Before the beginning of the season, the Cowboys and Shockers had a scrimmage to prepare for the regular season.
"Who we saw way back in October and then who they are now is really different," Mills added. "So I will tell you again, you can see by the Iowa State game and a number of other games that they're really good at home, really comfortable there. So, again, this is a heck of a challenge for us."
