WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Irish culture and pride were on full display Monday evening in West Springfield for St. Patrick's Day celebrations!
Western Massachusetts residents donned green and shamrocks while coming together at the Irish cultural center.
Featured was the Holyoke Caledonia
ns pipe band led by Sgt Rory McLean. The Cassin Academy of Dance also performed.
Member of the center Conor Driscoll tells 22News that this day brings everyone together—no matter their background. "People are so thirsty for knowledge of Irish culture, Irish history, even if it's only for today or a week," says Driscoll. "We want to make sure we can give them the right information, help people find out where their great grandmother is from or maybe people never had corn beef before---we want to do it right for them. Just experience the culture. People are so giving in this area, and its so nice to be a part of it."
And the green season doesn't end on saint Patrick's day, the center will be hosting special Irish events through the end of the month. Coming up this Wednesday, a 'trad Irish session' will be held—that begins at 6:30 PM.
