Fresno residents displaced after water used on grease fire

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Nine people were displaced after a resident attempted to extinguish a grease fire with water in Fresno on Monday, the Fresno Fire Department announced.
Firefighters say they responded to a report of a kitchen fire in the 4300 block of West Cardiff Avenue on Monday.
Crews say the fire ignited after a cooking pan of grease caught fire. In an effort to extinguish the flames, the resident reportedly used water which only made the fire worse.
By the time firefighters arrived, they say the fire had spread into the attic space but crews were able to quickly contain and extinguish it.
No injuries were reported, however, crews say nine people were displaced as a result.
Fresno Fire is reminding residents to never use water to put out a grease fire. Firefighters advise to turn off the heat and smolder the flames with a lid or use a fire extinguisher. ...read more read less
