Before units arrived, officers say a good samaritan, identified by his family as Abraham Bustos, saw a GMC Acadia had crashed into a guardrail and blocked the No. 1 lane. Bustos pulled over to the center median to check on the driver and his passengers.
Minutes later, investigators reported that 23-year-old Yessica Partida of Merced was traveling along the same road and did not see the GMC blocking the No. 1 lane. Partida eventually crashed into the GMC and then collided into Bustos as he attempted to help the right front passenger of the GMC.
CHP says Bustos was killed as a result, and after further evaluation of both drivers, they were found to be driving under the influence. The drivers and their passengers were all transported to a local hospital with moderate to major injuries.
Investigators say Partida was arrested on suspicion of Felony DUI and the driver of the GMC, identified as 22-year-old Sincere Collins of Atwater, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Bustos' friends and family describe him as "a loving, kind, strong, helpful individual" who was "always willing to help no matter the situation. Spreading his kindness anyway he could."
Anyone who would like to help Bustos' family lay him to rest can donate to his GoFundMe. ...read more read less
