RPS superintendent says school district receives ‘positive updates’ on Richmond principal injured in crash

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Public Schools' superintendent reported Monday morning that the school district continues to "receive positive updates" regarding Mary Munford Elementary School's principal, Gregory Muzik, who was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

nd Public School families on the morning of Monday, March 17, Superintendent Jason Kamras reported that the school district continues to "receive positive updates regarding Principal Muzik's recovery" after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.
At 4:38 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, Richmond Police responded to a crash on the 4400 block of Patterson Avenue where Muzik and a car were both traveling westbound. Investigators determined Muzik had moved into the travel lane and the car rear-ended him, throwing him from his bike.
Police said Muzik was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were considered to be life-threatening. The driver of the vehicle reportedly remained on the scene.

In the email shared on Monday morning, Kamras said in part:
"Mr. Muzik is more than just a principal: he’s a pillar of the Munford Elementary community and the wider [Richmond Public Schools] family. For over three decades, he has dedicated his life to the students, families, and staff of Munford, creating a nurturing and inspiring environment where children thrive. His leadership style, one that truly exemplifies leading with love, has touched countless lives.

On Friday, March 14, nearly 500 cyclists gathered at Albert Hill Middle School and rode about a mile to Mary Munford Elementary School for a bike parade in honor of Muzik.
"It is a testament to Mr. Muzik’s profound impact that hundreds of people gathered on Friday evening to participate in a bicycle ride honoring him," Kamras said in the email on Monday. "The outpouring of support is a clear reflection of the deep respect and affection our community holds for him."

On Thursday, March 13, the Richmond Police Department said detectives with the department’s crash team are asking for information or video from the scene on Tuesday, March 11, where Muzik was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.
Anyone with information or doorbell video of this incident is asked to contact Richmond Police Department Crash Team Investigator G. Drago at 804-646-1369.
