After a wet and stormy weekend across Central and Eastern Kentucky—where rainfall totals ranged from 1 to 3 inches and strong winds caused scattered damage—we started the new workweek on a much chillier note. Monday was a stark reminder that we’re still in mid-March, with lingering low clou
ds keeping temperatures stuck in the upper 40s for most. But don’t get too comfortable in the cool air—a big warm-up is on the way!
Warmer & Windy Tuesday Before Midweek Storms
Get ready for a quick turnaround in temperatures on Tuesday! A strong southwest wind, combined with plenty of sunshine, will send afternoon highs soaring into the mid-70s. Winds will be gusty at times, setting the stage for an even more active weather pattern by midweek.
By Wednesday, a strong low-pressure system will track through the Ohio Valley, bringing another round of rain and thunderstorms. Expect a windy day, with gusts over 40 mph possible. The Storm Prediction Center has placed us under a Level 1 (Marginal) severe weather risk, meaning a few storms could turn strong to severe, with damaging winds being the primary threat. Despite the stormy setup, temperatures will remain mild, reaching the mid-70s again.
Colder Air & an Early Wintry Mix Possible Thursday
As the system pulls away late Wednesday night, much colder air will rush in on the backside. Temperatures will tumble into the mid-30s by Thursday morning, and lingering moisture could lead to a brief rain/snow mix in the early hours. While no accumulations are expected, it will certainly feel like winter again! Thursday will stay chilly, with highs only rebounding to the mid-to-upper 40s.
Unsettled Weekend Ahead—More Rain Possible
The unsettled pattern doesn’t end there. Another system will bring scattered showers back to the region Friday night into Saturday. While this one looks weaker, a more potent storm system could arrive late Sunday into Monday, bringing another round of rain and possibly some storms. Temperatures will remain slightly above normal over the weekend, with highs hovering near 60°.
With multiple rounds of active weather ahead, be sure to check back for updates!
