EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man is facing a charge of assault after he allegedly assaulted a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer last month at a post office in Santa Teresa, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.
Court documents say Andrew Josiah Segura, 28, is facing the charge
and was arrested by the U.S. marshals after he allegedly verbally threatened two CBP officers and assaulted one of them last month at a post office in Santa Teresa.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, two CBP officers were at the parking lot of a post office in Santa Teresa to check for any mail or packages that had been received for the CBP Santa Teresa Port of Entry.
As one of the officers exited the CBP vehicle, Segura approached the officer's right side and positioned his vehicle perpendicular to the CBP vehicle as if to block it, court documents say.
Segura then began to yell at the officer, at which time the officer got back in the vehicle to avoid a conflict with Segura.
The officer waited until Segura left the area, exited the CBP vehicle, and entered the post office. Segura then arrived at the post office moments later and walked into the post office.
Segura began to yell at the CBP officer and called the officer a "traitor," according to court documents.
Segura walked closer to the officer and stood right next to the officer and looked at the paperwork the officer was filling out, saying that he now knew the officer's name and that he should watch his back, court documents said. The officer then told Segura to leave the post office.
The second officer, who was still in the parked CBP vehicle outside of the post office, decided to walk into the post office because he was worried about the other officer's safety.
The second officer entered the post office and while doing so, Segura exited the building.
Segura then ended up walking around the building and followed the second officer inside. Segura yelled and demanded the second officer to provide his name to Segura, according to court documents.
The second officer refused to provide his name to Segura, which is when Segura placed his hands on the officer's chest and pushed him backward, according to court documents.
The second officer then punched Segura and they both began wrestling one another, according to court documents.
Employees at the post office yelled at Segura to leave, which led to Segura leaving the building and returning to his vehicle.
Segura then drove around the post office several times before parking and entering the building again.
Witnesses told law enforcement that they saw Segura had his hand in the front pocket of his sweatshirt which appeared to be weighed down with something heavy. Witnesses said they believed he might've had a weapon in his pocket, according to court documents.
A week prior to the incident, Segura was also involved in a separate verbal altercation with another officer.
On Tuesday, Feb. 11, a U.S. Border Patrol agent had stopped for lunch at the Love's Travel Stop in Santa Teresa, when he was approached by a man who was later identified as Segura.
Segura began to verbally threaten the agent and told the agent that he was a "traitor," used an expletive and threatened to beat him up. ...read more read less
