INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An investigation into an overdose led to the arrest of a man for dealing the fentanyl that led to the death.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said that 29-year-old Shane Johns was arrested after an investigation determined he sold the fentanyl that was used
by a man that overdosed in a car Dec. 21, 2024 in the 700 block of East Thompson Road.
The investigation led police to video of the drug deal before the man’s death. Police say that Johns was the dealer.
Feb. 5, Johns was spotted getting into his car in the 4400 block of Southport Crossing Drive, near East Southport Road and I-65. IMPD tried to pull him over, but say “Johns refused to stop and led officers on a short vehicle pursuit,” that ended in him getting arrested.
Inside of Johns’ vehicle, police say they found 77 grams of fentanyl, $30,000, digital scales and bags used for dealing drugs, and a loaded handgun magazine. After the chase, a caller reported to IMPD that they found the gun that was tossed along the chase route.
IMPD says that prior convictions prohibited Johns from owning a gun.
