Man sentenced in deadly December 2021 pool hall shooting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A man was sentenced to 30 years in prison last week for a deadly shooting at a West Ashley sports bar.
Quantas Green was at Player’s Place Billiards with his cousins on the night of Dec. 13, 2021, during which he and the victim, Erron Javier Johnson, agreed to play a
game of pool. While the game was initially played without incident, Green eventually threw his pool stick on the table wanting to quit.
According to information provided by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Green aggressively approached Johnson, and the two engaged in a brief conversation before Green stepped back and fired a round from his 9mm semi-automatic pistol into Johnson’s neck.
Witnesses also testified that Green was heard yelling obscenities, and officials say moments from the night were captured on surveillance video.
“Following the shooting, the defendant slowly, calmly, and deliberately walked towards the front door where he stopped and fired at least eight more rounds into the crowded bar,” the solicitor’s office said. He then ran off, attempting to evade law enforcement.
Green was found in a salt marsh about an hour after the shooting. He was arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Johnson died at the scene; two others were injured during the shooting.
“The defense maintained that Green acted in self-defense. (Assistant Solicitor Andrew) McAllister argued to the jury that Defendant’s actions demonstrated he acted in anger, not fear,” the solicitor’s office said.
