Speed, alcohol believed to be factors in crash that killed 2 in SW Bakersfield: BPD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A 21-year-old woman was arrested after two people were killed in a crash where speed and alcohol are likely factors early Sunday morning at southwest Bakersfield intersection, police said.

wo-vehicle collision at the intersection of Coffee Road and Stockdale Highway at around 1:37 a.m. on March 16.

In a statement, police said two people traveling in a vehicle going southbound through the intersection were found suffering from major injuries. One of them was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later pronounced dead. The driver and a third passenger were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
The driver of a white Hyundai that collided with the other vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. Police said speed and alcohol impairment are believed to be factors in the collision.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as Anabell Correa, 21. Bakersfield police Sgt. Eric Celedon said Correa was arrested on homicide charges in relation to the crash, but had not been booked into the Lerdo jail because she remained hospitalized Monday morning.
The coroner's office will identify the two killed in the crash at a later time.
