"This is a pause. This is a comma," a church member said. "This is not a period."
There was no moment of silence at the late Pastor Ricky D. Floyd's church, Pursuit of God Church, on Sunday morning.
Instead, his congregation said they wanted to honor him the way they knew he would want, by praising a much higher power.

"We don't grieve like those who don't have no hope," a church member said.
This was the church's first service since Floyd was killed on March 12.
"We know that he is with the Lord because he knew the Lord, he loved the Lord and he had a relationship with the Lord," said Dr. Telisa Franklin. "He taught us the word of the God."
Dr. Franklin said the decision to move forward with service just days after his death was not easy, but it was necessary.

"We know he would want us to continue on because he gave us the blueprint of vision and we got to carry out the vision," she said. "If we don't know nothing else, Pastor Ricky D. Floyd and Pastor Sheila Floyd gave us the blueprint to pray."
Despite the tears, church members said they are leaning on prayer and their faith to move them forward.

"We grieve, we mourn, we cry, we ask questions," a church member said. "But when we get through with the questions, we don't grieve like those who have no hope."
According to the church's website, Floyd and his wife started the church in the early 2000s with the goal of changing lives in the Frayser community.
Dr. Franklin said that even though their beloved leader is gone, they will continue his mission.
"We gone keep that legacy going of our leader, our pastor, my friend, my twin - that he loved God, and he loved God's people," Dr. Franklin said. "So, that's all I know. We gone continue to love God and love God's people."
